Mr Electronica Man of The Moment: Jason Caine, returns with an 8-Pack Magnum Ice Cream looking package entitled the “Hollow Out EP” on Zimbalam. He continues where he left off in ‘Spring Load’ by setting the bar effortlessly high via some futuristic sounding swaggered beats, crowned over with strobes of dark n’ light grains and a “let’s not give a damn” attitude to it.
‘Fretless’ manages to coax the inner spirit very nicely and its gentle rises and swirls float across those left and right channels superbly. ‘Hollow Out’ (in its two forms) has a brilliant rich bass foundation to it whilst not letting anything part from the treble. A haunting aura it sure has, but not before it’s done away with all those evil spirits lurking about.
‘Over And Over’ dips its toe ever so slightly into the Christmas pond of December bells, but quickly shakes off any excess water and concentrates on the Spring/Summer seasons approaching. Dark in its entirety, but sharp in its flow, the addition of an unknown looped vocal intensifies the chorus parts some more and takes things upward to all things electronic music wonderland.
Finally, ‘The Core’ settles up this EP by taking the atmosphere levels down once even more. When it’s time for The Core’s intro to eventually arise from its seabed, it truly does sound like an aquatic journey is about to take place; with danger looming on its course and the sea hero watching on nearby for any strangeness lurking about. Bouncy and linear progressive at its most robust.
